coherent self

Coherent self. Although we have an integral identity that defines the fundamental nature of our inner self and thus forms the basis of our system’s organisation, we also live in an ever-changing world with unknown forces.

Although our body is able to adjust in direct and instinctual ways to outer changes, our system requires more subtle adaptations and the experimentation of a conscious will to evolve in a complex environment. This can lead to a chaotic and fragmentary adjustment unless we have a coherent symbolic representation of our own identity. We therefore need to have coherent sense of self which could maintain our integral identity but could also motivate us towards change, growth and expansion. To act in the outer world as a coherent self we have to become aware of the basic and unconscious structures of our inner organisation and then include them into the scope of our interaction with the unknown. In other words, we must link our intuitive feeling, rational thoughts and bodily experiences to those symbolic images or archetypal patterns which supply the energy and momentum behind our interaction with the unknown.
